As I mentioned last week, I’m mostly taking Mondays off for the summer. I do have two short updates. One good, one not so good. Let’s take the bad news first.
Many of you have mentioned having been dropped from receiving notifications of new blog posts. Some of you are unable to find my posts in the Reader. Some of you have refollowed this blog multiple times. I appreciate your efforts, and I am sorry you are having these problems.
I brought this issue to the attention of the Happiness Engineers in late March. Since then, I have had over a dozen email exchanges. Each one ends with “We are working on this problem and hope to have a solution soon.”
I was given the reference number for this case on GitHub, an online platform where the various people working on this problem collaborate. There has been little activity other than suggestions that this problem is more widespread than they realize and the fact that they have no idea what is causing the problem. I have provided as much information as possible, and being a veteran of 42 years of systems development, I have offered what were no doubt some unwanted opinions.
I do not have an answer. I know that problems like this are hard to diagnose, but I’m not convinced their heart is in the effort.
Now for some good news. The wall between my workshop and my garage has been opened. I have resecured the wiring, and relocated some of the fixtures and tools from the workshop. I still have more things to move. The next major step is to raise the floor in the workshop 1⅜” so I can install flooring that will be level across the entire space.
That’s it. I’ll see you here Wednesday and at your places between now and then.
